Charlotte's Web

Updated: Aug 18, 2020

Charlotte’s Web was an incredible journey into the wonderful world of children’s theatre, and I couldn't imagine a better way to embrace the genre than by telling the beloved story of true friendship between a pig, named Wilbur and Charlotte, a spider.

We welcomed over 1,000 patrons to ETSU's Bud Frank Theatre, half of which were local elementary students who attended the production as school field trips. I was reminded of my first school field trip to see a play. It was called Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, and it made quite an impression; I was completely spellbound as I watched the story unfold. Even now, over thirty years later, I can still visualize the origami paper cranes hanging about the stage and remember its message of peace and love. Charlotte’s Web was our opportunity to shape a lasting memory for the young people in our audience.

Theatre has the power to transcend, and by highlighting the selfless love of Wilbur and Charlotte, their spirit of giving leapt from the stage and into the hearts and lives of our young audience. It was invigorating to be there with the children of all ages, sharing in the experience.
